Job Description:

We have a permanent, full-time opportunity for a Baggage System Specialist in the Baggage Operations Department. The Baggage System Specialist is responsible for monitoring the performance of our Baggage Systems including mechanical/electrical and controls/IT components to ensure they are functioning as effectively and efficiently as possible to deliver every bag to the correct destination, every time. As the subject matter expert in Baggage Systems and Operations, they will be responsible for programs related to continuous improvement, change management, asset management and technical standards

Job Responsibilities:

  • Lead continuous improvement efforts through collaboration with groundhandlers, regulatory agencies, IT, Engineering, Maintenance, and other operational stakeholders; this also includes taking the lead in major incident investigation and root cause analysis
  • Provide on and off-hour operational and technical support to escalated and/or critical operational incidents, where necessary
  • For design and implementation of system expansion, improvements or upgrades, provide subject matter expertise to ensure all critical operational, functional and technical requirements and baggage processes are accounted for, documented, and evaluated; this includes validating test plans, test outcomes and accepting new systems and processes into operations
  • Provide input and review of the development of Standard Operating Procedures (SOP`s)
  • Document and maintain operating principles, business rule and system configuration parameters; establish a change control and communication protocol
  • Coordinate baggage system condition assessments and support the development of an asset management program for baggage operations
  • Assess impacts of projects, maintenance or other in system activities on operations or performance to baggage systems and partner’s operations; engage and execute on system change activities where required
  • Provide and contribute to internal presentations, and appropriately tailored to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Set baggage system performance indicators and audit system performance of mechanical/electrical equipment, sortation controls/software, low-level controls, and operational perspective, by extracting historical and real time data and analyzing the reports
  • Develop training strategy and facilitate training programs on new and existing processes to various operational/maintenance groups and stakeholders

Job Requirements:

  • Proven ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Intermediate or advanced MS Excel skills
  • Proven relationship building and negotiation skills in order to influence win-win outcomes
  • Strong business acumen and analytical skills with proven ability to manage, interpret and derive insight from data presented, then develop and implement plans and programs
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Ability to determine framework required to establish KPIs
  • Experience using business intelligence tools (Tableau, Qlik, Power BI, etc.) is preferred
  • Familiarity with project management and change management processes
  • At least five years’ experience in an industrial environment with a high degree of automation (experience with automated conveying or material handling an asset), supplemented by a university degree in System Design, Industrial, Process, Controls, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering; or an equivalent combination of training and experience
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced setting with the flexibility to adapt in an ever-changing environment
