Job Description:
The Team Lead of Data Engineering will be responsible for the day to day operations of all data processes within the Revenue Intelligence & Analytics Team. Leading a team of data engineers, they will be responsible to develop and execute a data strategy plan to migrate the business processes to WestJet’s cloud environment. This individual will have to work collaboratively with different areas of the organization including Information Technology and different teams within commercial (Revenue Management, Pricing, Digital, Loyalty, & Marketing).
Job Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with different teams across commercial to establish and maintain a data and analytics roadmap, project prioritization and product ownership
- Lead, develop and inspire a highly skilled team of data engineers, including determining day to day tasks, alignment to strategy, hiring and career development
- Ensure day-to-day operations of data processes, data ingestion, feature engineering and correction of inefficiencies
- Develop value-driven features to support different teams across commercial, and help them make better and more efficient decisions
- Cultivating a mindset of innovation, automation, agility and experimentation
- Support the development of long-term data strategy, including infrastructure, architecture, and data governance
- Develop best practices for documentation, process automation, and construction of data pipelines
- Responsible for proactively identifying improvements and automation opportunities within
- WestJet’s data processes to drive efficiencies
Job Requirements:
- Good communication and presentation skills
- Coding expertise, SQL, R or Python preferred
- Alteryx experience is an asset
- Azure preferred
- Snowflake experience is an asset
- Technical Skills:
- Experience with cloud solutions and data strategy:
- Post graduate degree in mathematics, engineering, statistics, analytics, artificial intelligence, data science, computer science or similar fields
- Two or more years of experience leading teams, with demonstrated ability to motivate, drive and develop team members
- Experience in Revenue Management, Finance or Airlines is an asset
- Four or more years of progressive hands-on data architecture design, data engineering, query optimization and ETL development experience
- Ability to work both with analytics subject matter experts and with business stakeholders; skilled in understanding and solutioning business challenges, and in translating between the languages of business and analytics
- MLOps frameworks is an asset
