Job Description:
Reporting directly to the Academic Department Manager, the Laboratory Assistant and Safety Coordinator is responsible to assist the PI with lab research in biomedical engineering and assisting with the establishment of safety protocol, implementation and compliance, and maintaining inventory of lab equipment and supplies.
Job Responsibilities:
- Assists the PI in conducting research, analyzing and collecting Data
- Assists the Academic Department Manager by providing input to the creation of new safety policies and protocols, standard operating procedures, and emergency response plans
- Ensures that anyone who enters the lab is conducting work in a safe way and following procedures put into place
- Conducts hazard assessments and evaluate safety concerns and make necessary recommendations and changes
- Inventory management track inventory (equipment and supplies) and initiate purchase order to replace inventory
- Provide training of safety policies, practices and protocol
Job Requirements:
- Chematix software, WHMIS, UofA laboratory safety
- Nanofab training on thin film deposition and characterization equipment
- MSc in Biomedical Engineering preferred.
- Bachelor’s Degree required
