Job Description:
The Kx Specialist reports to the Manager, Knowledge Exchange. Knowledge Exchange Unit is part of Innovation UBC, a strategic component of the Vice-President Research & Innovation Portfolio.
Job Responsibilities:
- Manages stakeholder maps, identifies key networks and strategic collaborations in priority research areas, and proactively engages with a variety of stakeholders, including community partners, practitioners and decision-makers
- Collaborates with staff from VPRI, SPARC, Community Engagement, Government Relations teams, and Kx faculty-based hubs to provide seamless support to researchers throughout the Kx continuum
- Maintains relationships with Kx specialists across UBC and at other research institutions and funding agencies
- Works with contracted consultants (e.g. graphic designers, professional facilitators); develops and facilitates contracts, oversees work and deliverables
- Ability to assess own performance and regularly report on project status.
- Creates and manage a project management document to facilitate organized project implementation
- Develops and manages the production of an environmental scan to identify university Kx assets, needs and gaps. Develops and manages Kx’s online repository
- Plans, facilitates and manages consultation processes with non-academic partners to identify Kx opportunities for UBC research
- Develop discipline appropriate content for the Kx training curriculum in preparation for the KT train-the-trainer program
- Develops and implements activities to enable the sharing of Kx practices across university Kx
- Collaborates with UBC Support Program to Advance Research Capacity (SPARC) to provide information to researchers across disciplines on potential funding programs for Kx
- Photography or videography skills and experience an asset.
- Identifies opportunities to engage trainees (graduate and post-doctoral students) in Kx projects and supervises their work initiative, resourcefulness and judgment.
- Identifies and proactively engages with researchers working in areas and questions that align with the needs and priorities of non-academic partners
- Accuracy and attention to detail.
- Develops, manages and implements university-wide training initiatives (workshops, tools, templates) on Kx, working closely with faculty members, experts and external partners in the Kx field
- Ability to work independently.
- Engages with Innovation UBC colleagues to advance common projects and to connect UBC researchers with other relevant resources VPRI portfolio
Job Requirements:
- Highly organized with the ability to prioritize assignments and take on a variety of tasks
- Combines an ability to work independently with an intuitive sense of when consultation is appropriate or when senior leaders need to be engaged on an issue or project
- Ability to build networks and manage relationships with internal and external partners
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the practice and science of knowledge exchange
- Experience in a supporting role with researchers in developing Kx strategies is an asset
- Impeccable oral and written communication skills
- Proficiency in the MS Office Suite of computer software. Experience/skill editing websites’ back end is an asset.
- Training in research development is an asset
- Experience facilitating groups of stakeholders
- Experience with Kx approaches (partnerships, collaboration, dissemination)
- Demonstrated project management and organizational skills
- Training in research development and/or knowledge exchange is an asset
- Strong skills in developing and implementing knowledge exchange plans, activities and products
- Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to engage diverse audiences and work with people of diverse milieus and backgrounds with respect, tact and diplomacy
