Job Description:
The key objective of the Automation team is developing new and innovative solutions in the factory and help Tesla achieve its ambitious manufacturing goals. All these automated manufacturing processes will be planned, assembled and tested at our Tesla facilities located in Toronto, Canada.
Job Responsibilities:
- Standardize system level, power distribution, controls, safety code, fieldbus distribution and equipment safety, applied to all in-house new equipment
- Participate in design reviews
- Specify all machine electrical/ safety scope of works for internal and contracted vendor resources
- Responsible for all manufacturing equipment for successful passing third party inspections for Field Label or CE/UL
- Inspections (NFPA 791, FEB or NRTL) as part of the system qualification (IOQ)
- Perform Machine Safety Risk Assessments per industrial standards, FMEA and HAZOP
- Guidance and enforcement of National and International electrical and machine safety standards to all new equipment designed
- Collaborate with EH&S
- Support for system validation and installation
- Electrical design, testing, commissioning of controls systems, control panels and associated equipment
- Support and troubleshoot existing systems in production
- Create system LOTO per OSHA requirements for new manufacturing equipment
- Specify components and suppliers
Job Requirements:
- Degree as Bachelor / Master / Dipl.-Ing. in Electrical or Mechatronic Engineering or the equivalent in experience and evidence of exceptional ability
- Hands-on experience in design and development of PLC based control systems for use in factory automation
- Able to work under pressure in the presence of stakeholders
- At least 5+ years of relevant professional experience in an electrical/hardware engineering position
- UL508A, B/ ANSI/ SEMI S2/ OSHA and all applicable codes and standards
- Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC, Low Voltage Directive 2014/35/EU, Electromagnetic Compatibility 2014/30/EU and all applicable standards and supporting annexes
- Willing to work nights and weekends when determined by project needs
- Travel will be expected
- TUV or SIS certified
- In depth knowledge of electrical designs compliancy, codes and standards or equivalent (local voltage usage, regulations, governing bodies)
- Hands-on experience with electro-mechanical troubleshooting in a high-volume automated manufacturing environment
- Very good written and spoken English skills
- Proficiency selecting appropriate circuit protectors, wire and cable, sensors, safety hardware, PLC hardware, remote I/O,
- VFD and servo systems
