Job Description:
Provide strategic legal advice to all areas of Member Services with respect to the plan administration including:
Job Responsibilities:
- The interpretation of the pension plan provisions with respect to members and their survivors and employers;
- Engage external counsel with respect to legal issues regarding plan administration
- OTPP’s rights and obligations under the pension plan and governing legislation regarding plan members, survivors, beneficiaries and employers including designated private schools and designated organizations;
- Support Ontario Teachers’ with respect to regulatory relationships, including with the Financial Services Regulatory Authority
- Support Pension Administration Compliance by providing legal advice with respect to ongoing Pension Administration Compliance functions
- The application of judicial and regulatory decisions affecting members of the pension plan and their survivors and employers;
- Work with the Policy team to support the consistent application of pension plan terms to the administration of the plan, in accordance with the Plan administrator’s fiduciary duties
- Support the management of all aspects of dispute resolution regarding plan administration including:
- Work with the Managing Director, Government and Public Affairs with respect to monitoring and providing submissions regarding legislative, regulatory and jurisprudential developments in areas impacting the pension plan, such as tax, family law and pension investment regulations
- Provide legal advice with respect to the development and implementation of proposed plan amendments
