Job Description:
We are looking for two Mechanical Technicians to support our Real Property Planning and Management Branch in St. John’s. The Maintenance Technician would be someone who shares our core values of Integrity, Excellence, Respect and Creativity.
Job Responsibilities:
- Under the general supervision of the Site Operations Supervisor or Site Operations Coordinator, the successful candidates will maintain and troubleshoot equipment and systems in a safe manner in accordance with current codes and standards, assist the Supervisor in small projects and coordinate the activities of contractors on site.
- Other duties include; performing routine tasks to maintain the physical plant and keeping the site looking presentable and safe. He/she will have good communication and computer skills in order to write short reports, including database upkeep, logs and reporting, and work from manuals, drawings, sketches and verbal instructions. In addition, the incumbent will also undertake other related duties as needed, such as but not limited to grounds keeping, office moves, model moves, operate fork lift, scissor lift, overhead cranes, and minor carpentry work such as plastering, panting and minor repairs.
- The incumbents provides assistance to staff in Electrical, Refrigeration and Millwright trades and performs a variety of maintenance activities including but not limited to, troubleshooting, servicing for a multitude of mechanical systems and or equipment such as hydraulic systems, pneumatic systems, HVAC systems, plumbing systems, filtration systems, air compressors, heat exchangers, driers, exhaust systems, nitrogen systems, air compressors, motors, pumps, building automation and security systems etc.
- The Mechanical Technicians will work closely with each Research group to support maintenance /repairs and setup of equipment to ensure operational efficiency. They will work as part of a team but will routinely perform work independently and maintain a high level of accuracy and safety, while performing your duties.
Job Requirements:
- Experience with PPE safety equipment, harnesses and workplace safety procedures.
- Maintenance Technician or mechanical trade training, including apprenticeship would be considered an asset.
- Successful completion of secondary school or equivalency diploma according to provincial standards.
- Experience dealing with hazardous and chemical products.
- Significant experience with maintaining and troubleshooting equipment which may include but is not limited to: plumbing systems, filtering systems, pumps, motors, hydraulics systems, pneumatic controls, HVAC systems, refrigeration systems, building automation system (BAS), and security systems.
- Significant experience in an industrial or commercial maintenance environment.
- Basic experience with MS Office word and Excel.
- Experience working at heights, forklift, scissor lifts, overhead cranes, and rigging.
