Job Description:
Reporting to the CICE Academic Portfolio Manager, Academic and Liberal Studies, the successful candidate will represent the College externally for student-related field placement outreach and support CICE students in meeting program outcomes as it relates to their field placements.
Job Responsibilities:
- Conduct field placement visits, and/or phone consultation with employer and student. Evaluate and ensure relevancy of work experience as it relates to the program curriculum and student level
- Review workplace accommodation needs with students and communicate student needs with employer, prior to student starting placement
- Actively develop and increase field placement opportunities for CICE students to meet program outcomes
- Participate in admission interviews, program orientation, and program start up activities
Maintain and develop new field placement materials as it relates to field placement evaluations, attendance management, placement logs/journals, and student goals/reflections - Provide feedback, advice, or mediation between student and employer in order to solve problems at the field placement as needed
- Assist students with planning and attending field placement start up activities, including but not limited to coordinating field placement interviews, transit planning, assistance with directions, providing visuals for travelling to location of placement, and meeting students in the community for interviews
- Develop new and maintain existing relationships with employers to facilitate ongoing work terms and field placements
- Assist with student job search skill and development, workshops and/or in-class presentations and provide individual coaching regarding job search or field placement issues
- Identify and recruit employers who can support students requiring a higher level of support/supervision in the workplace
- Represent the CICE program at functions, both externally and internally (community events, advisory committee, employer events, associations, etc.). Assist in the co-ordination of job fairs and employer events
- Ensure all employer and student records are kept current with field placement and performance results, assessment data, and relevant career counselling information using Blackboard, PeopleSoft, and other relevant tools
Job Requirements:
- Demonstrated networking and collaboration skills
- Knowledge of workplace accommodations for individuals with disabilities and barriers to employment
- Excellent communication, organizational, problem solving, conflict management, and prioritizing skills
- Minimum two (2) years experience in job development, career coaching, or employment advising for diverse client groups
- Proven abilities in working independently, exercising initiative and good judgement
- Two (2) year diploma/degree in Disability Studies, Developmental Service Worker, Therapeutic Recreation, Social Work,
- Social Sciences, Career Development, or similar field of study
- Experience supporting individuals with disabilities considered an asset
- Experience coaching, advising, and mentoring to assist client towards successful job placement and retention
- Ability to work closely with employers to effectively match individuals with barriers to employment, and/or little to no workplace experience, with suitable work placements
