Job Description:

Reporting to the Executive Chef, the Sous-Chef will oversee the preparation, set-up, cooking and presentation of meals for events hosted by A-9, Global Affairs Canada, and 7 Rideau Gate, the residence in Canada of visiting dignitaries, in accordance with recognized quality standards. As part of this role, the successful candidate will be responsible for the presentation of dishes in their respective sections, and for cleaning and storing kitchen equipment. The successful candidate will ensure compliance with health and hygiene standards and will assist in resolving any problems that may arise. They will work closely with the Executive Chef to ensure the smooth running of the kitchen.

Job Requirements:

  • In depth experience in all areas of cooking (pastry, fish, meat & vegetable preparation)
  • Creative and enthusiastic
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work as part of a team
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs on a regular basis
  • Good organizational skills and initiative
  • Available to work an irregular schedule (afternoons, evenings and weekend shifts)
  • Minimum of five (5) years of proven experience
  • Experience in international cuisine
  • Physical work will be required
  • A past record of satisfactory attendance and punctuality is a requirement
  • Red Seal certification and Culinary Arts diploma required
  • Ability to work under pressure in a diplomatic environment
  • Eligibility to apply for Secret security clearance (no criminal record)
  • Bilingualism (English and French)
  • Certified Chef designation preferred
  • Extensive knowledge of current cooking trends
  • Secret security clearance would be an asset
  • Must be able to stand & exert well-paced mobility for up to 12 hours
