Job Description:

Manage an environment of Oracle, SQL, and other databases through multiple product lifecycle environments, from development to mission-critical production systems

Job Responsibilities:

  • Establish and maintain sound backup and recovery policies and procedures
  • Capacity planning
  • Lifecycle management of database management tools
  • Coordinates the activities of the database management area
  • Configure and maintain database servers and processes, including monitoring of system health and performance, to ensure high levels of performance, availability, and security
  • Interface with applicable vendors for technical support
  • Lead, participate, and support technical troubleshooting
  • Develop, or assist with the development of preventative maintenance & sustainment plans
  • Develop metrics to evaluate system usage and effectiveness
  • Optimizing database performance
  • Perform the administration and maintenance of databases
  • Installation, configuration, and upgrading of database software and related products
  • Proactively monitoring databases and reviewing performance logs for issues
  • Deliver fit for purpose and scalable solutions based on environment, need, and operational constraints
  • Work as part of a client team
  • Evaluate databases features and related products
  • Assist with applicable upgrades to database and support infrastructure portfolios
  • Create and validate documentation
  • Participate in hiring activities of staff
  • Participate in various committees as required

Job Requirements:

  • Strong Organizational Skills.
  • Technical documentation creation
  • Understanding of Big Data concepts and standards would be an asset.
  • Demonstrated ability to transfer technical knowledge to new initiatives and applications.
  • Experience with Linux/AIX/Unix and Windows operating systems
  • Experience with DBaaS would be an asset
  • Knowledge of Data Warehousing/ETL Processes
  • Influence, train, mentor, and leverage the skills of others, including business partners and technical team
  • Experience managing overall security and integrity of the University’s database infrastructure
  • Experience administering Oracle 17+, Oracle WebLogic Fusion Middleware, Tomcat, RMAN
  • Three or Four Year Bachelor Degree or Equivalent
  • Real Application Cluster (RAC) experience is desired
  • Demonstrated ability to work within a matrix management organization while effectively supporting multiple projects and deadlines
  • Ability to work effectively with a team or independently, as well as lead small teams as needed.
  • 5 to 8 years of experience in supporting/implementing systems integrations and reporting
  • Professional integrity and behaviour
  • Oracle Grid Control experience is desired
  • Experience with an ERP system (Ellucian’s Banner ERP preferred)
  • Ability to learn new technologies.
  • Degree in Information Technology or equivalent degree with work experience
  • Effective organizational skills to plan, prioritize, and complete multiple concurrent tasks in a production support environment
  • Strong Communication Skills.
  • Oracle certification(s) and demonstrated experience managing Oracle databases and related technology
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills to troubleshoot and perform root cause analysis on technical problems and solution design
  • Disaster Recovery Strategies
  • Post-Secondary background is an asset
  • Good communication to manage technical resources and stakeholder expectations
  • Administration Experience in one or more of the following databases (Oracle, SQL, PostgreSQL)
  • Understanding of Master Data Management (MDM) concepts and standards would be an asset
  • Experience patching, upgrading, tuning, and supporting a multi-instance database environment
