Job Description:

Organize the department labs and lab equipment storage spaces, which includes overseeing and organizing inventory, bookings, use of equipment, special events, and upkeep.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Under minimal supervision, perform skilled and semi-skilled technical work of moderate to high complexity in preparing resources for human anatomy, physiology (including exercise physiology), biomechanics, motor learning, and athletic therapy laboratories.
  • Operate EMS (AV) computer program, including adjusting camera angle for optimal viewing, starting & stopping audio/videotaping sessions, and bookmarking relevant segments of the recordings
  • Collaborate with other HSLC staff to ensure daily operating requirements are met
  • Attend department and coordinator meetings
  • Assist the Chair with scheduling of courses with laboratory components.
  • Use a wide range of computers, software and hardware components to facilitate newest technological advances in teaching.
  • Assist recreation with equipment for courses with an equipment requirement
  • Assist with the development/updating of laboratory manuals
  • Plan, analyze, and organize all laboratory procedures, equipment, and supplies required for each laboratory course.
  • Provide training, guidance and technical expertise to faculty (full-time and contract instructors) and students.
  • Refine laboratory procedures for more efficient use of time and resources with a special emphasis on laboratory safety and good laboratory practice.
  • Responsible for proper storage, labeling, packing of biohazardous waste.
  • Uphold simulation pedagogy while operating in the HPED labs

Job Requirements:

  • Three to five years experience working in a Kinesiology or Physiology lab environment would be an asset.
  • Partnership building – ability to gain confidence and cooperation of students, employers, and faculty members
  • Team player with strong leadership qualities
  • Time management and organizational skills, ability to meet deadlines, attention to detail
  • CSEP-CEP Instructor/Trainer preferred
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including formal presentations
  • Problem solving, with diplomacy and tact, interpersonal expertise, and role modeling
  • Knowledge of Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) regulations and Workplace Hazardous Material Information System regulations (WHMIS)
  • Ability to prioritize and keep multiple projects/tasks moving forward at once
  • Simulation knowledge/certification preferred
  • Advanced computer skills including: word processing, instructional technology, email, internet, database management, and
  • Google Docs collaborative platforms (docs, calendars, etc.)
  • Certified by Canadian Society for Exercise Physiology (CSEP) as a Certified Exercise Physiologist (CEP) and/or Certified Athletic Therapist
  • Initiative to be a self starter and to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Three or four year BPE/BSc/BKin or equivalent (with expertise in Athletic Therapy and Exercise Physiology); A Master’s degree is preferred.
