Job Description:
The candidate will be responsible for client integration and operation of the infrastructure and systems which support the electronic Foreign exchange (FX) services for HSBC.
Job Responsibilities:
- Capacity planning / management
- Working with key stakeholders to discuss new requirements or improvements to existing applications
- Monitoring production services and following up on queries or reported issues
- Vulnerability remediation
- Debugging applications and root cause analysis of incidents or problems
- Plan, schedule and implement changes
- Communication with various teams including the clients, quants, voice traders, development teams, management and vendors
- Development and testing of functional and non-functional requirements
- Ensuring that all services are stable for internal and external users
- Configuration management of servers and applications
- Certifying new clients or existing clients for new features
- Maintain internal documentation
- Onboarding new clients to production systems
Job Requirements:
- SQL and NoSQL exposure (oracle, postgres, mongodb)
- Comfortable operating on command line only interface (UNIX/LINUX )
- Strong skills in system engineering concepts, UNIX/Linux, networking, query language (KDB/Q/SQL)
- Understanding of co-location environment model
- Knowledge of virtualisation and containerisation concepts
- Must be analytical and have excellent troubleshooting skills
- Experience managing 3rd party suppliers
- Experience in some modern development languages (Java, Python, JavaScript)
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree ideally in quantitative field (CS/Maths/Physics/Finance) and should have good written and verbal communication skills
- Customer facing skills – to be able hold one’s own in discussions with demanding front office users
- Understanding of FX Cash products (Spot, Outright, Forwards, NDFs)
- Knowledge of scripting and programming (esp. SQL, BASH, HTML, XML)
- Ability to troubleshoot and resolve infrastructure issues: Network, Disk space, High CPU

- Consequently, a successful candidate will need to be pragmatic and flexible with an open minded approach to dealing with teams with these differences. - Excellent written and verbal communication skills, must be able to interact and work well with traders, back office personnel, vendors, futures business and other IT teams
- Scripting and programming knowledge to assist in troubleshooting
- Experience working with Production/DR model
- Graduate level computing technology qualification(s)
- Basic scripting and programming skills
- Understanding of Capacity Management with ability to analyse current and future performance requirements
- Ability to work unsupervised and under pressure for periods, individually and as part of a team
- Willingness to take ownership for problem resolution and additional responsibilities where applicable
- Maintain effective business partnerships with peer support & operations groups
- Experience with deploying applications onto public cloud
- Process excellence – a passion to achieve results though effective organisation and process disciplines
- Experience with installing and configuring open source software
- Understanding of production management (ITIL) concepts
- Strong investment banking background that includes application support in a front-office environment
- Understanding of the FX trading business, FX trading, pricing and risk platforms
- Working knowledge and understanding of FIX Protocol
- Understanding of networking and TCP/IP family protocols
