Job Description:
The Environmental Health Science and Research Bureau (EHRSB) is looking for new talent to conduct environmental health research and generate the scientific evidence to advance regulatory policy and decision making
Job Responsibilities:
- Establishment of methodologies to quantify human exposure to substances in the environment
- Conduct of epidemiological research to quantify the effects of environmental contaminant exposure on population health
- Mechanistic research to understand the molecular and biochemical origins of substance-induced toxicity;
- Application of statistical, mathematical and computational models to identify chemicals responsible for toxicity, the levels of exposure at which the toxicity is manifested;
- Establishment of state-of-the-art molecular toxicology methods and techniques, and approaches that enable holistic understanding of the toxicity and disease processes;
- Development of strategies and models that allow prediction of toxicity induced by substances;
- Establishment of analytical methods for biomonitoring human exposure to substances in the environment; and,
Job Requirements:
- Respectful of diversity
- Advanced analytical chemistry laboratory techniques (e.g., HPLC, ICP mass spectroscopy, nanotechnology etc) .
- Programming, networking or managing data in a relational database, including deploying and migrating applications in virtual environments.
- Communications skillsets with a wider audience
- Laboratory certification for chemical, biological or radiological agents and hazards.
- Other evolving or emerging scientific equipment/instrumentation/tools (please specify).
- Strategic and visionary
- Capable of understanding and leading change and Innovation
- Advanced toxicology laboratory techniques (biochemistry, genomics, proteomics etc).
- Working with Partners and stakeholders
- Communications skillsets with technical and scientific peers
- Use of statistical software packages for analyzing data (e.g., R, SAS, SPSS, etc)
- Graduation with an acceptable doctoral degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in a field of the natural sciences related to the duties of the position, or the employer-approved alternative for the SE classification.
- Managerial and Leadership Skills
- Modeling (e.g., population-based exposures; In silico toxicology; genomic, proteomic or biochemical pathways; atmospheric and particulate chemistry; geo-spatial exposure)
