Job Description:
Located in Midland and reporting to the Dean, the incumbent provides broad academic management to a cluster of diverse programs within the Engineering and Environmental Technologies, Skilled Trades academic area. The Associate Dean provides college wide Apprenticeship leadership, and manages all programs at the Midland Campus, including, but not limited to, Techniques programs, Academic Upgrading Programs, Literacy and Basic Skills programs, Pre-Apprenticeship programs, Dual Credit and School Within a College activities. The incumbent manages the operational and academic activities at the Midland campus and provides leadership to Midland Staff. Specific duties include, but are not limited to:
Job Responsibilities:
- Representing the Dean, as necessary, at designated events
- Initiating problem solving processes for disputes involving staff, faculty and students
- Managing financial resources to ensure fiscal responsibility and accuracy in developing, monitoring, reporting and ensuring financial reporting obligations and annual revenue targets are met
- Recruiting, hiring and evaluating all faculty and support staff
- Responsible for managing the health and safety program in the academic area (e.g., training, SOPs, documentation, etc.)
- Ensuring program outcomes are achieved through effective leadership and supervision of the teaching and learning processes
- Managing the operations of Engineering and Environmental Technologies, Skilled Trades
- Conducting curriculum review processes and facilitating the on-going review of existing programs
- Initiating, facilitating and actively participating in the development and implementation of new academic programs to reflect market changes and the employment needs of industry, to enhance students’ experience and increase enrolment
- Attending Program Advisory Committee meetings, facilitating and/or chairing committees that involve college-wide and/or campus initiatives
- Leading and collaborating on community engagement initiatives
- Effectively leading and managing staff at the campus
- Ensuring the business planning for the Midland Campus and activities align with the college strategic plan and priorities
- Assisting as necessary with the implementation of special projects across the portfolio
- Working within the Ministry performance management system for provincially funded programs and managing annual targets and objectives per the funding agreements and ensuring business plans, performance reports and data management systems and processes are completed and submitted in a timely manner
- Establishing positive relationships with internal (faculty, staff and students) and external (industry/sector representatives, professional associations) stakeholders
- Proposing and coordinating enhancement funding for Apprenticeship Capital Grant (ACG) and Colleges Equipment and Renewal Fund
- Working collaboratively in the development and implementation of the academic area’s operational plan in alignment with the academic direction and Georgian’s strategic plan
- Managing all aspects of the campus operations and facilities, in collaboration with remotely-located centralized departments
- Ensuring that faculty and staff assignments are consistent with college policies, procedures and collective agreements
Job Requirements:
- Adult Education or Educational Leadership with progressive academic and teaching experience in post-secondary education
- Experience/knowledge in operating an academic campus environment preferred
- A minimum of 9 years of experience in the engineering technology, environmental and/or manufacturing, skilled trades fields with diverse experience in technical shops/labs/fieldwork settings, and good knowledge of industrial-related applications
- Ability to identify, address and resolve problems or conflicts in an efficient and diplomatic manner
- Demonstrated ability to work collegially in a unionized environment
- Project management experience with demonstrated analytical and organizational skills to be able to manage multiple projects in an effective and timely manner
- Experience with academic processes and procedures (including curriculum development, teaching and learning styles and techniques, complaint procedures, program reviews, collective agreements, etc.)
- Communication (written and oral) and interpersonal skills in order to build and cultivate relationships with a variety of stakeholders and manage difficult situations with diplomacy and tact
- Experience with the Ontario apprenticeship system and apprenticeship program delivery
- Ability to lead effectively in organizational change management
- A minimum of 5 years of leadership experience in an academic and/or industry setting
- Training in teaching/training/curriculum (e.g. Centre for Teaching & Learning courses)
- Demonstrated community connections and networking experience
- Master’s degree with an undergraduate degree in a field related to Engineering and Environmental technologies
- Experience developing, managing and monitoring budgets
- Experience with an industrial-based Health and Safety environment; knowledge of practices/regulation as applicable to those environments
