Job Description:

Reporting to the VP mining, the General Manager, Sales and Marketing Mining has overall responsibility for developing strategic plans to deliver industry leading mining market share (PINS), exceptional product support market share (POPS), strong inventory management and an effective New Product Introduction (NPI) process.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Contract negotiating and management team: design and implement a contract negotiation team. This should be a stable team, with formal training, clarity on roles and responsibilities, and accountability including closing significant deals and ensuring contracts are executed based on contract language.
  • Strategy: Responsible for the development and execution of the Finning (Canada) Mining Marketing Strategic Initiatives (short and long term), as it relates to New & Used Equipment, Product Support, Expanded Mining Products and
  • Technology. Provide leadership to the Product Managers and Regional Sales Teams on key programs such as Caterpillar Leadership Table/Mining Growth Plan; Dealer Growth and Profitability; New Product Introduction; Winning in Components.
  • Price: In collaboration with Caterpillar, Finning Canada Regional Teams and sales force develop and communicate pricing strategies to successfully increase market share and profitability.
  • Product: Collaborate with Caterpillar and internals groups in the development of new products, new product training, and marketing programs. Provide dealership feedback at Caterpillar Advisory groups for the purpose of building knowledge of
  • Caterpillar product direction and Dealer Best Practices. Support and work with Product Support Marketing to integrate MAM’s and PSSR’s to common mining marketing strategies.
  • Sales Management: design and implement a sales management process in Mining that will ensure an ongoing market and coverage analysis, a coverage and lead monitoring management routine, supported by CRM.
  • Market intelligence: Responsible for gathering, analyzing and communicating intelligence on products, market conditions, competitors and customers for business decision making. Also an ongoing win/ lost sales analysis.
  • Promotion: Working with the other marketing groups, provide leadership direction as it relates to promotion and dealer/customer/association events.
  • Sales Capability: Build within the Mining businesses by providing coaching, training and development plans to Product Managers and Regional Sales teams. Collaborate with Sales Training to create and deliver sales training programs and assessments.
  • Working in collaboration with Supply Chain and the regions on forecasting, Sales & Operations Planning, and inventory management to achieve the corporate ROIC target.
  • Participate in industry associations related to Mining (e.g. CIM – Canadian Institute of Mining)

Job Requirements:

  • Experience running a P&L of a similar scope, scale and complexity
  • Knowledge of Caterpillar Equipment and Heavy-Duty Machinery Market Strategies
  • Exceptional communication, presentation skills, leadership and mentoring skills
  • 10+ years industry and sales/marketing experience in a managerial capacity
  • Post-secondary degree in a relevant discipline with demonstrated business related career progression
  • Ability to influence without authority
  • Strong business and financial acumen in association with strategic planning expertise and deep knowledge of products and economic factors for the mining industry
  • Demonstrates and champions the attributes and competencies of high-performance leadership.
  • Previous commercial mining experience with equipment and product support would be considered an asset
