Job Description:

Administers and manages the vessel’s financial, human and materiel resources to ensure that the vessel is operated within the allocated budget and in accordance with applicable plans, standards, programs, regulations and directives of the Department of Fisheries and Oceans.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Plans, organizes, directs, controls and co-ordinates all the operations of the vessel and equipment in the performance of assigned tasks, and provides functional and operational advice on missions and mission objectives to Senior Management.
  • Promotes and maintains harmonious and mutually beneficial relationships among the employer, crew, client and contractor, and manages the grievance procedure.
  • Arranges and provides public guided tours of the ship.
  • Enforces compliance and investigates acts of non-compliance with various acts and regulations, collects and gives evidence, and prepares court briefs.
  • Directs helicopter and small craft operations as well as programs in Search and Rescue, Icebreaking, Environmental Response, Boating Safety,
  • Conservation and Protection, Science and Marine Aids to Navigation programs.
  • Ensures the safety and security of the vessel in port and at sea, supervises the vessel’s officers, crew and assigned staff, promotes their well-being and productivity as well as identifies the need for and conducts training.
  • Provides all support necessary to ensure CCG meets its mandate.
  • Provides a thorough Change of Command with the relieving Commanding Officer, including a review of pertinent vessel documents and relevant correspondence.

Job Requirements:

  • Minimum five years of experience as a Deck Officer, two of which need to be experience as Chief Officer on a large vessel(1000GT or greater)

  • SO MAO 09 and MAO 10: Experience in a shore position relating to marine management or marine training
