Job Description:

The position is expected to maintain knowledge of current developments in the communications, social media and public relations fields and maintain awareness of trends and conditions affecting Camosun College’s activities and operations. The position publishes content that is timely, engaging and informative for the college’s online community, including prospective and current student audiences, across multiple platforms. The position will be required to work on both campuses and occasional evenings or weekends.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Performs other related duties similar in scope and complexity.
  • Recommends and maintains technical and creative standards for production in consultation with the supervisor; monitors and reports on metrics for digital initiatives and uses metrics to maximize content that generates engagement. Keeps up with current digital trends and constantly reviews and evaluates existing and emerging platforms.
  • Aids other departments and schools in preparing digital communications and marketing support as directed by the supervisor. Supports the department in development short, medium and long-term digital marketing and communications plans for the college.
  • Plans, coordinates and evaluates complex production projects within budget and time constraints in consultation with supervisor. Create scripts, films, edits, produces and distributes videos for the college’s digital channels. This may include campus events, faculty and staff interviews, orientation material, recruitment videos, digital ads, public service announcement and B-roll for media.
  • Prepares and posts content on college social media channels (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Instagram, YouTube, TikTok and other platforms) in a way that informs and generates engagement.
  • Supports colleagues in the Communications and Marketing department generate and post video and digital content on various social channels.
  • Responds to feedback and questions in a respectful and timely manner and serves as a guide for best practices.
  • Develops content for marketing and communications activities such as print, television, social media, radio, YouTube, electronic and digital.
  • Participates in department team meetings and various ad hoc meetings, social media teams and task forces as directed by the Executive
  • Director, Marketing and Communications.
  • May participate in the selection and guidance of external vendors to support major projects.
  • Contributes digital still photography to enhance promotional, recruitment and communications efforts, internally and externally.
  • Creates and curates content for Camosun’s website, social media accounts, YouTube account and other digital channels in alignment with the college’s brand.
  • Provides technical and operational support for services such as photography and College events (i.e. livestreaming Conversations Day)
  • Helps develop and maintain a college-wide digital content calendar.

Job Requirements:

  • Must possess a valid B.C. driver’s licence.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, to engage and develop relationships with people in a creative environment.
  • Demonstrated flexibility and time management skills to move between projects with different demands.
  • Proven ability to take high-quality digital still photographs and videos for a range of mediums.
  • Understanding of content differences for various social media platforms.
  • Ability to work with a variety of client groups, including students, staff, faculty, administrators and the public.
  • Technical knowledge and ability to operate equipment and software required for video and photography based digital content, primarily for a student audience.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud (i.e. InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, etc.), video editing software (i.e. Final Cut Pro, iMovie, etc.), and photo and video editing apps.
  • Ability to frequently lift technical equipment up to 50 pounds.
  • Knowledge of web content best practices, including knowledge of industry standards for web information architecture and responsive design, and familiarity with web usability, accessibility, and search engine optimization techniques, including creating SEO-friendly content.
  • High level of creativity.
  • Demonstrated social media management fluency.
