Job Description:

This role manages and supports the 24X7 operations and enhancements for the Smart Metering Infrastructure (SMI) Field Network Director (FND) and Tunnel Provisioning Server (TPS) as part of the Advanced Metering Systems Operations team within Smart Metering Technology Operations.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Identifies and maintains BC Hydro internal working relationships through regular contact.
  • Develops and implements operational plans dealing with complex and short to medium term application development, maintenance, and sustainment. Typically, these plans are 1-2 years in duration.
  • Leads and/or provides subject matter expertise of system design specifications; system acceptance testing and commissioning for system maintenance and/or system upgrades.
  • Lead the operations team to respond to 24×7 alerts and triages and restores systems operations in alignment with operating service targets.
  • Reviews and approves Infrastructure and Network lead changes and artifacts for FND and TPS such as network diagrams/drawings of firewalls, switches, servers, and other critical infrastructure within the Data Centres to ensure accuracy.
  • Responsible for capacity and resource management for operations teams and IT Service vendor resources. This role is required to analyze annual service delivery requirements, conduct trend analysis, gap analysis, resource projections, and mange overall resource allocation and capacity.
  • Requires a high degree of creativity, technical understanding, and innovation in identifying and providing solutions due to technical changes required to meet evolving business needs.
  • Manages and mentors resources to maintain the day-to-day operations and performance of the applications, infrastructure, and cybersecurity components.
  • Works closely with internal operations team and the IT service vendor(s) in the development, execution, and management of operational plans.
  • This role is also responsible for the Application Maintenance and Minor Enhancements budgets, ensuring work requests are prioritized and the spend is optimized.
  • Ensures operations teams utilization is optimized through developing and implementing workforce strategies involving redeployment, additions, and reductions.
  • Influences and negotiates with BC Hydro clients and stakeholders on low risk, low impact situations.

Job Requirements:

  • Minimum 6 years of proven ability to manage teams or lead technical initiatives and has relevant hands-on technical operational and upgrade experience with the following or equivalent: FND,
  • Luna Client, TPS, CGRs on various O/S and corresponding single home or dual home backhauls and routing. Experience with configuring and conducting Zero Touch Deployment (ZTD) for CGRs.
  • Exceptional oral, interpersonal, and written communication skills.
  • Well-developed planning, organizational, teamwork and leadership skills.
  • Highly developed, multi-faceted writing skills, with extensive experience producing high quality technical documentation and key project documents.
  • Demonstrated experience to lead and influence internal staff and service providers through expertise, relationship building and value delivery.
  • Minimum 6 years experience with: Linux OS, Unix OS, SQL Query, Oracle Database, IPSec Security, Clustered Field Network Director (FND) application, Tunnel Provisioning Server (TPS), Cisco Connected Grid Routers (CGR) on various backhauls, Itron RFMesh smart meters, various networking, and infrastructure such as ASR & DASRs.
  • Ability to maintain a professional and assertive demeanor in challenging situations and possesses the confidence to act on critical decisions.
  • Bachelors Degree in Computer Science and/or equivalent combined with a minimum of 6 years’ experience working in Smart Metering Infrastructure (SMI) and/or large enterprise organizations managing complex business solution delivery of applications for managing large RFMESH field area networks.
