Job Description:

Reporting to the Associate Director, Operations, the incumbent provides leadership on the positive integration of international students into college life from application to graduation. The incumbent liaises with all areas of the College to identify and implement best practices and process improvements in support of Algonquin’s International strategic goals. In particular, working with the International program support team, the incumbent is accountable for the creation and implementation of innovative programs and services that ensure a welcoming and supportive environment for the College’s International students, which results in enhanced international student satisfaction and student retention.

Job Responsibilities:

  • The incumbent is responsible for implementing best practices in international student services to enhance and maintain the College’s overall position in enrolment and student satisfaction relative to similar organizations.
  • The incumbent liaises with the Registrar’s Office, the International Recruitment and Business Development teams, Student Services, Academic, and other areas of the College to develop strategies and improve systems and procedures that increase the conversion rate of international applicants to students and the retention and graduation rate of international students.
  • The incumbent provides guidance to both International English for Academic Purpose (EAP) students, International students in Programs of Study, and International students in sampler programs.  

Job Requirements:

  • Proficiency in a Windows environment, including E-mail; Word processing; PowerPoint;
  • Excellent interpersonal and client service skills;
  • Good negotiating and conflict resolution skills;
  • Strong organizational and planning skills;
  • Four (4) year degree in Business Administration, International Relations, Social Work, or other related field;
  • Excellent knowledge of the Canadian college system and understanding of international learner needs and services;
  • Minimum of seven (7) years’ practical experience, with a minimum of 3-5 years providing services to learners in a college or university setting, preferably with international learners;
  • Intercultural Awareness Training or equivalent experience working in an intercultural context;
  • Superior oral and written communication skills;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of project management principles and practices;
  • Proficiency in a second language would be considered an asset;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of student counseling/advising;
  • The incumbent should hold RISIA (Regulated International Student Immigration Advisor) or RCIC (Regulated Canadian Immigration Consultant) certification
  • Experienced in engaging in difficult conversations with students;
  • Ability to analyze statistics and make recommendations;
  • Background in lean (AC Way) preferred.
